Email marketing has become one of the primary ways that both internet and business marketers communicate with prospects as well as existing customers.
Email marketing offers some definite benefits over conventional direct mail:

- It’s very fast – you can generate responses from prospects or customers within minutes of sending out out a mail camaign. This enables you to gauge the effectiveness of your offer, the price, the guarantee, etc. – at a far faster pace than via direct mail
Sadly, email marketing also has several downside factors:
- It’s basically free, and so it has attracted a lot of abuse by indiscriminate email spammmers
- Several spam blocking mechanisms have been introduced – either by the hosting companies, or as independent service – such as that offered by SpamArrest.
- Anti-spam sentiments have become so strong that your website can be banned if you are accused of indiscriminately sending out unsolicited emails.
The net effect is that in recent times the effectivness of email campaigns has declined considerably. In addition, ignorance of the modern ‘rules’ of email marketing can have serious consequences for your site.
